GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS
Do
you have an issue going before local, state or federal government? Are you concerned with a
proposed local ordinance, fee, or decision by
the
City/County? Do you find
that current or proposed state/federal legislation is putting your
business in jeopardy? Contact
the
Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Division.
The Governmental Affairs Division
is very active in developing strong working relationships with
government officials at all levels so that we have
the
opportunity to discuss issues important to business and our
community, to be a resource to elected officials, and to find ways
that we can collaborate to ensure a healthy business climate which
is necessary for
the
economic vitality of our region.
As Teddy Roosevelt said, “It is
difficult to make our material condition better by
the
best law, but it is easy enough to ruin it by bad laws.” We know where bad laws come
from, and we know that Legislators respond to
their constituencies. It is our responsibility to let
them know what we need and what it will take to create and retain
private sector jobs in order to build a stronger, more vibrant
community.
The Governmental Affairs Division is pro active in identifying
issues, monitoring legislative activity at all levels, rallying our
members, educating and informing our elected officials and working
with
them to develop and implement
the
best solutions for business, the
Valley and
the
State.
This Division includes:
- The Governmental Affairs Council:
Comprised of 17 voting members who research, discuss and take
positions on local local, state and federal
issues on behalf of the Chamber Board of Directors.
- Governmental Affairs Task Force is a group
of Board members who meet confidentially with elected officials
and staff individually to discuss issues of concern to
them as well as to
the
Chamber and to identify ways that we can work together.
- Eggs and Issues – An opportunity for our
state and federal legislators to meet periodically with Chamber
membership to discuss
the
“state of
the
state or federal government” and to answer questions regarding
key issues.
We also designate task
forces as needed to address special topics such as Redistricting
Reform, City/County budgets, and immigration reform. |
